I don't find Colbert's character that funny either to be honest.

This will either be really good or really terrible. I just have no idea what Colbert doing comedy looks like outside of him doing his persona.

I think this happened just because my internet connection is finally good enough that I can use the Comedy Central app to watch full episodes.

Pretty much everything he did on The Daily Show before the "character" sucked balls, as is pretty typical of Daily Show correspondents. He sucked on Strangers With Candy. He's done some okay voice work on Harvey Birdman - keeping in mind the we're talking an Adult Swim show that was surreal and obnoxious on purpose. -Not unlike The Colbert Report, where he's funny, but also not unlike all the earlier work that sucked. Others will disagree -funny is highly subjective- but I usually saw where he was going way too soon with a gag in his earlier work. Comedy doesn't tend to work without the surprise.

Still, the character should have worn out the gag YEARS ago, by any rights, so maybe he's found his zone. I hope so.

I dont even watch late night hosts, they conflict with the Daily Show, Colbert and other stuff I'd rather watch like Family Guy....giggity. And I grew up on Johnny C

this will fatten his wallet for a year maybe, but its a big mistake, he's a character comedian and this'll be like making Slim Pickens the star of the movie

Okay; I thought that was a (typically) unfunny circle-jerk until he lost it. A sketch being improved by screwing up doesn't speak well of the bit.

Johnny Carson was a terrible comic sketch actor. He turned it into a positive.

                      After having slept on it...

Talk shows suck (except Graham Norton). No host is going to make the "Late Show" or the "Tonight Show" watchable. They are straight up sales pitches for whatever celebrity is making the rounds. The jokes are watered down and safe... and aren't funny.

Colbert is a tremendous talent. But we're essentially losing everything that made him great. He'll do fine hosting the Late Show. But it won't matter because the show itself sucks. I doubt I'll watch a single episode.

So from Colbert's perspective, this is a great move. The position is an obvious upgrade. His stock is rising... which is good for him.

But overall, it's a net loss.

I always preferred Leno, he was funny without being mean or bitter. Letterman was both, especially after the move.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

                            This is precisely accurate.
