There's nothing wrong with the dream, my friend, the problem lies with the dreamer.

Good point. Much in the same vein as people becoming more cynical about gay rights (when they initially weren't predisposed to be) after reading poly posts.

Hmm. I think there's a roughly ten-year gap, but Andy may not have thought of it right away.

I feel very little about Fred Phelps dying- one more ignorant, bile-filled blister popped, so many more left. Some people will mourn him, I won't.

                      However:

No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main; if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as if a manor of thy friend's or of thine own were; any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.

Apparently Westboro is. He was excommunicated.

I heard a rumor that it was because the church wanted to try to be more "kind".

But I think it's really about some legal bull**** regarding the church's assets.

I don't think its actually a very Christian response to cheer for someone's death. FWIW, I held this same position when Osama bin Laden was killed. A better response is to consider what a tragedy the man's life was - he chose to spread hate instead of love.

                              I remind you:

Indeed, although I'd say that is just the more humanist response rather than just the Christian response.
