  • Congress wants to outlaw horse meat again.

This is stupid and being made purely for emotional reasons. Honestly, it reminds me of how some stupid twit Senator had kangaroo meat outlawed because his wife had heard they were endangered (the ones used for meat aren't and instead are domestic animals raised specifically for meat). Dumb, dumb, dumb.

Besides, we would actually likely see an increase in the number of horses being kept if a way could be found to make money off of keeping them. Right now they're basically kept for sentimental or historical reasons but aside from race horses the industry isn't really net making money. Let people sell them for meat and hides and you'll see a lot more horses around because there will be an economic reason to keep them around.

Exactly. Plus this will still happen so why should we send those jobs to Canada or Mexico? I really do wonder if the beef industry's lobbyists are just upset because they don't want more competition.

Some people keep pigs as pets. I guess those "incredible companion animals" shouldn't be eaten either.

I don't see horseburger as a real threat to the beef industry, honestly. Nor heavy job loss from horse-meat processing moving across the border (a high percentage of meat-processing jobs are currently done by illegals anyway, so this would only save them the trip and boost their poorer economy). Is this whole thread meant to be satirical or sarcastic in tone, and I'm just missing it?

It's about needless regulations which serve no purpose and hamper legit economic activity.

Are you under the impression that wild kangaroos are endangered?

No, but some stupid American senator was. I believe they were talking about a specific species of tree kangaroo but the dullard didn't know there were other species, some of them quite large and harvested for meat, so he tried to make it illegal to import ANY kangaroo meat at all.

I would have thought my calling him a stupid twit would have gotten across the idea that I don't agree with him.

It was that you singled out domesticated animals as unendangered. I was curious as to the need for a distinction.

If horses are no longer considered food does this mean Oerdin won't post any more threads about them?

The bit in brackets. "The ones for meat aren't.....instead are domestic", seemed to imply the ones not for meat, non domestic, are.

With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
