We have two mostly useless industries, insurance and pharmaceutical, running health care in America like a cartel. High costs. Low quality. Medicine marketed on TV. Made up conditions... for which the only cure is some bull**** pill... which has side effects... for which you need another pill... and so on and so forth.

The early 20th century is mocked now with snake oil salesmen selling "cure all" elixirs. But that culture didn't go away. It just evolved into the racket that is America's modern pharmaceutical and insurance industry.

The statistics are 2 years old, so they may be bigger now. The US, less than 5% of the world's population, consumes 80% of the world's prescription narcotics.

I am highly doubting that Americans consume 80% of narcotics globally.

Opiate prescriptions really do need to be clamped down on. In particular in Florida where you can get a nice big bottle of oxycodone at a "pain clinic."
