If 20% of the US population need to be regularly taking prescription meds then you must be a seriously sickly bunch.

      nah

We have two mostly useless industries, insurance and pharmaceutical, running health care in America like a cartel. High costs. Low quality. Medicine marketed on TV. Made up conditions... for which the only cure is some bull**** pill... which has side effects... for which you need another pill... and so on and so forth.

The early 20th century is mocked now with snake oil salesmen selling "cure all" elixirs. But that culture didn't go away. It just evolved into the racket that is America's modern pharmaceutical and insurance industry.
To us, it is the BEAST.

It's a hoax. No one has ever died of an MJ overdose.

          ACK!
And yet the anti-legalization folks clamped on to it as if it was true. Sometimes the truth is funnier than comedy.

You really think it's likely that Americans, 4 1/2% of the world's population need to consume 80% of the world's production because we're in that much more pain?
I've had 9 year old patients who left an ER with a prescription of Percocet for a sore throat.

That sounds like an issue with incompetency within your profession Doc.

80% of what, the insurance paid for brand names?

I am highly doubting that Americans consume 80% of narcotics globally.

Opiate prescriptions really do need to be clamped down on. In particular in Florida where you can get a nice big bottle of oxycodone at a "pain clinic."
