  • Why are people taking up Dione Payne's cause?

Saw this going around as the new Trayvon Martin story. Even has a Change.org petition.

Dione Payne deserves justice. His rapists and murderers should be charged for every crime they committed against him.

Michael A. Geldrich, 36, and Michael J. Watson, 39, are both being held in the Warren County Jail for the December 1 beating death of the young Payne. Miami Valley Hospital workers discovered that Payne had been sexually assaulted during the attack. Hospital personnel contacted Middletown police and stated the teen had been sexually assaulted, according to the police report. But thus far, no rape charges have been brought, and hate crime charges have been dismissed point blank by Franklin Police Chief Russ Whitman, who said there is "no evidence" that there was a racial motive to the rape and murder of this 16-year-old African American.

    ....

Ask why these criminals have not been charged for raping the 16-year-old boy who they murdered. Also ask why hate crime charges are being excluded, when this does not seem to have been a common practice for these drug buyers to rape and beat-to-death previous people who they have tried to procure narcotics from.
    Wait what? Narcotics?

Am I missing something? Does the media actually have an agenda to misrepresent narratives?

First of all, with the cliche but necessary questions: how is this a hate crime? Does the simple fact that the perpetrators were white and the victim Black enough to constitute a hate crime? Why is there this pervasive idea that white victims exclusively receive fair justice and media outrage? It's very rare that Black offenders are charged with a hate crime for killing a white victim.

While the change.org petition recognizes the victim's checkered past, it dismisses it as irrelevant, even though the victim came to the perpetrators to sell drugs. The writer of the change.org petition did some lazy editing since he does not mention the drugs until the very end as an aside remark that it looks like he forgot he didn't mention in the summary. Googling the case comes up with a ton of political action blogs and sites that ignore the drug issue, as well. While no one deserves rape and death, it is not easy to sell America on getting outraged over the fate of a drug dealer who was tricked into his demise. Therefore, it is systematically being ignored, even though it is an aspect of the case as it explains how the perpetrators and victim met. This isn't random unsavory tweets from Trayvon Martin.

It is also easier to sell outrage if the victim looks like a poor victim. Really with the old cute photo of a 16 year old drug dealer?

Defending black people is a cultural trait of the liberal tribe. Expect the conservative tribe to come up with reasons why this guy was asking for it.

the drugs help explain motive, maybe the criminals set him up for robbery or retribution over a past scam perpetrated by the victim

Isn't that a bit like saying Al Capone was a victim of Prohibition?

Reagan's drug war increased penalties for adults in the drug trade, thats when gang recruitment and juvenile crime rates really took off as minors exempt from the penalties joined the black market. Today politicians are bragging how juvenile crime rates have dropped to their lowest in 20+ years, no kidding... We have Reagan to thank for that highpoint in crime rates. As for the kid, he aint Al Capone - and if Al Capone's only "crime" was selling illegal booze and he was killed by somebody, he'd be a victim of Prohibition.

Am I the only one who'd never heard of this kid before reading about it here? Not that I really pay attention to the news...

Obviously not a hate crime. The lessons to learn are don't sell drugs and don't vote for liberals.

What, do you subscribe to racebaitingbull****news.com now? Or do you just pride yourself on knowing all the country's dead wannabe-hoodlums "before they were cool"? If it's the latter, please let us know if this kid's family somehow become total sellouts to the establishment. Like maybe they give tearful interviews to a news station with no indie cred or something.

He was a criminal that suffered the risks of his freely chosen profession. Hardly a victim by any reasonable measure of the word.
