Incidentally, but not really, poaching and habitat conservation are sort of linked.

More habitat supports more prey supports more lions supports more hunters.

Less habitat supports less prey supports fewer lions supports... do the hunters go away in their lifetimes, or do they hunt the species out?

Evidence suggests humans stick around for a long time where the hunting was once good. We hunt them out, to extinction. That's what we do regularly.

There was a similar nutter communing with kodiak bears until one day one of them got hungry and ate him.

I suspect that you are, once again, talking out of your ass. Habitat conservation has a great deal to do with species survival, especially for large and even more so for carnivorous species.
