The Fed injects the currency by buying up Treasury debt, and now holds half again as much of that debt as China does.

Using money pulled out of thin air.

If anyone but the Fed were doing it, it would be called counterfeiting. If a foreign power were doing it, it might be considered an act of war.

And yet the amounts being talked about are so tiny in relation to the total amount of currency out there that inflation is actually at or near a century low. Oh, and what you people seem to always forget is the Fed also destroys such electronic currency (nothing is actually printed) when it suits them as well. Like interest rates they increase or decrease the amount of currency in circulation (both electronic and real) in order to reach inflation goals. Well, inflation goals and economic growth goals. They're damn good at it too judging by how low they've managed to keep inflation.
