To predict it to be correct for 10 years, that's something to be celebrated.

If you wait long enough, any prediction about the future will be 'wrong'.

I wasn't predicting the gaming future in 2013.

Not specifically. But you just did for 2014.

Also, "next gen"... or past gen if you compare them to current PC hardware... is being released this year.

              Yes, I predicted 2014 in 2013. I didn't predict 2013 in 2002.

And I know they're being released this year, but they won't overtake PCs with one month of sales.

Neither PS4 or Xbone will overtake the PC market... at any time.

The console market will overtake the PC market in total sales. Even right now the numbers are close, and the numbers from the PC market are highly suspicious and from an activist trade group.

Not without the Chinese market. Though, I think they have allowed, or are talking about allowing, consoles sales in the country.

Even now, consoles are moving away from gaming and more towards general purpose entertainment devices. Heck, Xbone's name "one" is even in direct reference to this reality. I think more people use consoles for Netflix than gaming.

For a few months, consoles will outsell PC's... because people will "upgrade" to the next gen. But the overall market share of consoles is only going to get smaller.

Will the "SteamBox" be considered a console or a PC?

Everybody called everything gay. It basically meant "lame".

It's really a meaningless distinction at this point. Consoles are PC's. It's merely an issue of OS/UI and hardware accessibility. "Consoles" are closed platforms that don't allow for (much) upgrading or user control. They're great for children and adults who don't want to do anything more than put a disc in and play.

More so today than at any point in recent history, consoles are at a disadvantage. They want to be the "everything" that PC's are... only they have none of the advantages of a PC. Consoles are obsolete before they are even released.

And as far as gaming is concerned, they are more expensive. Think about Steam sales... the last one in particular. I bought a lot of games for under $5... AAA titles. To get an equivalent sized library on a console, one would need to spend 5-10 times as much money.

"Free to play", subscription based games, and micro-transactions have been some of the major driving forces behind PC gaming becoming a larger share of the gaming market than all other consoles combined. But in order to access many of these popular titles on a console, a consumer needs to buy into Sony and MS's respective premium services.

Nobody wants to pay an extra an extra usage fee in addition to the inherent costs.

Exclusive titles are the only thing keeping console gaming alive at this point. As smaller form-factor PC options like Steam boxes become more mainstream, the market share of consoles will continue to dwindle.

At some point, the console business won't be able to compete at all. Nintendo, Sony, MS, and anyone else... well... they'll just be software devs/publishers.

Nintendo should have stopped making consoles ages ago. Except their portables, which rule. The wii and wii u are pointless however.
