Doing so in a state park where such things are illegal, in a manner that easily could have killed you and possibly your son ... filming it, and putting it on YouTube while you have a pending lawsuit that claims you were disabled by a car accident ... gets you closer though, doesn't it?

Let's be honest, if the sandstone had given out on the first roll-back, he'd be competing for a Darwin Award. Sure, it might not win, but it would still have been a valiant effort.

A park protecting the geological features that are the most visible and attractive features of the park is perfectly understandable.
Mount St. Helens and the surrounding region is quite literally buried in pumice. Everyone in the world could grab a piece and not have a big impact. Of course, everyone walking there to grab their piece would be another matter entirely.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

Have you ever seen a personal injury lawsuit where those are not listed? It's practically boilerplate.

I know, that was the point of my rebuttal to the use of the corollary.

The move provoked an international outcry, and the two men have said they have received death threats from around the world.
Anyone sending death threats over a ****ing rock needs help.

I don't disagree that it was the wrong thing to do. I do think that the ease with which an aging fat man sent it over suggests it's remaining time could be measured in months or years, not millenia. Definitely get kicked out of the scouts and pay a fine; not felony worthy.

It was kind of stupid but what was more stupid was leaving those two obvious morons in charge of children.

I hear there are bears and other dangerous animals in some 'Mercan state and national parks... burn them... burn them all... to keep people safe from bears.

So the children get to learn from this idiot that it's okay to deface or damage other people's property as long as they think (wrongly or rightly) that there was some kind of "hazard."

I've read about this couple days earlier from a Facebook post. I wondered after reading it, what kind of mental disability the guy has.

Hey, let's for the sake of it agree on that. It's just a rock and it was bound to fall some time or another. Then look at what they're saying. They're saying they did it because they were afraid the rock could injure a passer-by, even though rocks like those are damn park's main feature and the risk of kinda goes with territory. If they'd wanted to make it safe they still had a very long way to go. Bit like pluggin all the geysers at Yellowstone. They're saying they want to make it right, which really deserves no elaboration. And then they're saying they learned that state parks are important to a lot of people, which just me wonder in amazament why they were in such park to begin with. It's like you'd visit the Kruger and not realise the animals there there are important to a lot of people.

Don't get all contrarian in response to hippie outrage and just take a moment to let the stupidity of those comments sink in. I'd have infitely more respect for their cognitive abilities if they'd just say "**** you, it's just a rock".
