The Cedar Fire was the worst wild fire in California history and it burned huge swaths of San Diego County in 2003. I can remember helping my parents evacuate their house in Scripps Ranch after fire fighter teams came by with loud speakers ordering everyone to leave their homes because the fire was coming. A lot of homes were burned, over 2200, and in the more remote locations several dozen people died because they were unable to get out before the fire got to them. KPBS has a good radio article on the fire if anyone is interested.

What adds to my frustration about that event is the hunter who started the fire isn't sitting in prison serving a long term. He was illegally hunting without a license, got lost, set a signal fire, but then later wandered out on his own unharmed. The fire he set though cost the state and Federal governments billions of dollars, destroyed over 2200 homes, and killed dozens of people. The fact that such a bastard isn't rotting in jail for the rest of his life shows some of the problems our justice system has.Try http://wordforge.net/index.php for discussion and debate.

He was committing a criminal act while he went and committed yet another criminal act which ended the lives of dozens of people and cost billions of dollars. Hell, yes, he belongs in jail.Try http://wordforge.net/index.php for discussion and debate.

You're free to feel that way but they when they built their homes it was perfectly legal. To compare, the other guy committed a whole litany of crimes.Try http://wordforge.net/index.php for discussion and debate.

There are some touching stories from the Cedar Fire like one man, who after evacuating his wife and children, went back to try to save his home. The problem was the fire burned out the power transformers so the water lost pressure while he was trying to use his sprinklers and garden hose to keep the fire away from his home. After that his house caught on fire and he had to jump into his swimming pool to escape the fire storm. He still had bad smoke inhalation. The radio article has a story of a family trying to drive out on a dirt road built into a mountain side and having to steer between walls of flame while praying they would make it out alive.
