So. Kickstarter. Home of lots of games that will fail. Some is better managed than others. I've supported a few, like the Leisure Suit Larry remake, a few RPGs and of course the very, very promising StarCitizen. I think that game has real potential.

The other day I discovered The Mandate, which seems interesting. A little Xcom here, a little Freelancer there, and a story that adapts to your choices.

Have you discovered any promising games on Kickstarter recently?

    Discuss.

Planetary Annihilation began on Kickstarter. I was in the alpha. They didn't have AI at the time, so I didn't play much. I have to register my key with Steam. Supposedly, they have planet destruction in the beta (now).
To us, it is the BEAST.

The Mandate Pitch Trailer was quite confusing, at first i thought it would be like Emperor of the Fading Suns until it finally reveals to be a SpaceAction RPG? Then it reveals it is combined with Building Stuff? What exactly is it going to be?

This one looks good; they raised $20 million on kickstater. It's kind of a cross between Trade Wars, Battlestar Galactica, and X-Com. It's being done by the guy who did Wing Commander back in the 90's.

Shadowrun Returns is quite fun, and the player develop missions are getting better and better.

                  ACK!

Ah, yes. I forgot that one, so I never kickstarted it. I'll probably get it when it's finished.

                        It does look good.

                        First in game video:

Personally, I think it is great that the big production/producer companies no longer have a lock on which games get made and now independents really do have an alternative funding source so they are more free to build the game of their dreams instead of what ever the MBAs say is hot right now. That will mean more original games and fewer "X was popular so lets build a game just like X". Heck, many producer companies literally say they're not interested in any game which won't be a series with endless sequels (that's why we get yearly Madden games and games like Total War but few brand new games) and this can actually change that dynamic.

Edit: Watching the video it seems like the game play will be a lot like Troika's Temple of Elemental Evil video game. Though the whole cover thing with turn based moves seems like X-Com.

StarCitizen is so promising. It's the one kickstarter game I have most faith in.

I'm a little interested in City of Titans mainly because City of Heroes and the expansion City of Villains were so damn cool.
