    God, that speech is crap.

What exactly is 'enlightened' about the Committee of Public Safety?

If, we are to believe that the Catholic church has got it all wrong and that disposing the ties of the Catholic church to society - why did we not usher in an era of peace? Of joy?

Why did we not see in the Soviet Union - which removed religion altogether - that we did not see the flourishing of society? The Ubermensch once stripped of all the burdens of superstition, yet he did not thrive beyond all men?

We are told that one sets about the discovery of 'moral truths and principles', and yet we are told that it doesn't really matter in the end - all ways are equally good! And yet - some are not.

Do you really think, Oerdin, that I would find such an argument compelling?

On the contrary, BK is a good example of why history is important. A warped understanding of the past leads to a warped understanding of the present. Or, conversely, people with a warped idea of the present will try to bend the past to fit it.
Case in point - the denial that Islam was responsible for the Armenian genocide.

Yes, we're all amazed. The bar must have been set pretty low.

Actually quite true- for a brief while, England became the centre oof Protestant Reformation thought in Western Europe.
A much written about and ballyhooed time. Much less is written about the previous 10 centuries when England was considered to be a Catholic bulwark.

One might consider the overabundance of published material for this brief period as opposed to the paucity of material about the latter evidence of severe historical bias against Catholicism.

But then what would you know about this time? It wasn't covered in grammar school.

I've said before, you're crap at history.
And yet, I have a history degree from an accredited university and you do not.

    False, false, false, false, false.

Actually quite true- for a brief while, England became the centre oof Protestant Reformation thought in Western Europe. The Catholic trappings of Henry's Anglo-Catholicism were in the process of being done away with on Edward's early death. Elizabeth, to the evident dismay of more reform minded clerics and some of her government, brought back these trappings on coming to the throne.

    Sucks to be you.

Just like you ignore other people asking you for facts, not your opinions.

And the reason why he couldn't tolerate defiance is because he believed he was the head of the Church. Not Christ.
You only say this because, as I've said before, you're crap at history. Take a note, Sister Bendy, class is now in session:

We are not the head of the Church if by the Church you mean the whole Mystical Body. Certainly not. It were blasphemous to suggest so, for Christ is its only head.
We have never meant this, as you perversely suggest.

Rather, we must distinguish, just as St Paul spoke both of the Church and the church of Corinth, so we must speak of the Church as a whole, whose head is Christ, and the Church of England of which we are head; and when we say we are head of this Church we mean head of the clergy of England.

Was a sleek good looking man in his youth. Had Anne Boleyn executed and the marriage annulled, so technically he wasn't married to her. Catherine of Aragon died of tumour on the heart, I think. Jane Seymour, numero trois, died of puerperal fever. Anne of Cleves was happily never married to him, as the marriage was never consummated- something to do with her flabby face, big nose and droopy breasts. She was not executed. Catherine Howard, entering the lists at number 5, was a flighty young thing who seems not have been a virgin when she married Henry (not really her fault- she was the victim of power politics at Henry's court and seems not to have expected to marry a king one day...) and may have engaged in extra-marital doings when married to Henry.

Henry's government made such behaviour treasonous, so off came her head.

    Katherine Parr outlived Henry.

So of six, he had two executed.
