      • SHE’S A SCI-FI NERD
There’s nothing we love more than a girl who indulges in her nerdy side, and doesn’t apologize for it! “I’m kind of a nerd,” Davuluri admits. “I love Star Wars, Star Trek, and anything sci-fi!”
        Ok, she's good.

                            • An Open Letter To The Racist ****s On Twitter Bashing Miss America Nina Davuluri

Thank God almighty above for Buzzfeed. The popular site managed to get links to a collection of the most offensive, racist and ignorant tweets that were sent from Americans after they watched Nina Davaluri win the Miss America pageant over this past weekend before their authors either deleted the racist tweets, locked their accounts down so we can’t see their racist tweets, or closed their Twitter accounts completely. But good ol’ Buzzfeed got a good sampling of the worst stuff Americans had to offer in the wake of learning that a woman with a foreign-sounding name had won the pageant that apparently means so much to Americans that it inspired tweets like this one below.

Darn..I wish Miss Kansas would’ve won! Real American woman!!

                              — Jennlyn (@Jennlyn) September 16, 2013

Waking up to see that Buzzfeed article made me realize two things.

                              1. I had no clue that the Miss America pageant was last night. I feel like that in and of itself is some kind of moral victory.

                              2. There are some really disgusting, racist pieces of **** in this country.

So I decided to write this letter to all the racists who tweeted or posted Facebook statuses that in any way cast aspersions on a woman whose only crime appears to be having darker skin an Indian name.

To All the Racist-Loser-Jealous-Pieces-of-**** Who Took To Twitter To Register Your Racist-Loser-Jealous-Piece-of-**** Comments About Who Won Miss America,

**** you. At the risk of blowing up the “Unintentional Irony” meter I have under my desk: GET THE **** OUT OF MY COUNTRY.

Sorry. Let me rephrase that. GET THE **** OUT OF NINA DAVALURI’S COUNTRY.

I hate to break it to you sacks of idiotic flotsam and jetsam but Ms. Davaluri, the new reigning Miss America despite your racist objections to the contrary, is far, far more American than any of you bitter jingoistic *******s will ever be. Her family’s immigration story is no different than the millions of other family’s immigration stories that make up our shared American history. Have you never heard of the “melting pot?” Let me give you a free clue — we don’t call this country a melting pot because we have and believe in a white-washed, homogenized America. We are the world’s melting pot precisely because of the diversity of our citizens, and that diversity is our greatest strength, you unevolved simpletons, not a liability.

I just want people like you out. The douchebag that tweeted, ”Man our president nor our new Miss America isn’t even American I’m sorry but Miss Kansas I salute you your the real American #MissAmerica” (real tweet), doesn’t understand what the founding principles of this country are. Perhaps that’s because even the men who founded this country were massive racist, slave-owning hypocrites in that regard, but the bottom line is that in this country race and religion are not supposed to preclude you from anything, least of all a silly pageant that bears no universal significance, no larger symbolic point.

In point of fact, Ms. Davaluri being the first Indian-American Miss America is a far better representation of where this country is in the year 2013 than just another in a long line of blond-haired, blue-eyed, boxed and pre-packaged beauty queens that you lot were obviously pulling for. Sure, Nina is undeniably attractive, but the larger point I’m making here is that our country doesn’t look like a blizzard with a few dark spots here and there anymore. Social mores have changed and the races have been intermingling for so long that even in the most basic of senses, our country is looking a little differently than before, and that is what truly is at the heart of the vulgar display of xenophobia on social media last night.

Your modern racism is really no different than the hard-right’s refusal to move on immigration reform. The same people who are blasting out tweets like “I swear I’m not racist but this is America” are the same people who are claiming that “illegals” are “stealing our jobs and sucking up free welfare.” Am I making generalizations here? Hell yes I am, again at risk of breaking the Irony Meter. Maybe I am giving you all a bit of a straw man treatment here, but I’d be curious to know what non-racist thoughts inspired tweets like, “Congratulations Al-Qaeda. Our Miss America is one of you.” For starters, her family’s from India, so to assume she’s a Muslim when there are many religions represented in that country, let alone that region, simply proves my point for me. You are ignorant racists.

The same racism that allows *******s like you to think, type and then post things like “9/11 was 4 days ago and she gets miss America?” is behind people like Michele Bachmann claiming that Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s aide, Huma Abedin, had ties to the Muslim Brotherhood and was going to try to bring America down from the inside. It’s ignorance and fear, nothing else. 9/11 has sadly been used by people like you to justify the ugliest nationalistic rhetoric ever, and your terrible reactions to a young woman getting to wear a crown and a sash for a year and hold a title that doesn’t entitle her to anything but free food, handshakes and speaking engagements prove just how little we’ve learned since 9/11.

So yes, I want you lot to leave Nina Davaluri’s country. You know, it’s funny. People like you love to bang on and on about “American Exceptionalism,” but there is nothing exceptional about you other than your exceptional levels of racist ignorance. American Exceptionalism is a paradigm a reject outright. Even if I didn’t, it’s families like the Davaluri family that pack everything up and come here, work hard and contribute to our society that foster anything remotely close to American Exceptionalism.

You are just spoiled, white *******s who don’t even appreciate the sacrifices the Davaluris made and still make to live in a country that would spit in their loved one’s face simply because she doesn’t look the way her predecessors did.
