Russia is now backing a plan proposed a while back by John Kerry which called for Syria to surrender all of its chemical weapons to "the international community" (presumably that means the US) as a way to avert a US lead attack on Syria to punish their use of chemical weapons. I have lots of fears about this being agreed to but not implemented but this could be a way to solve the immediate problem without bombing.

Leave it to the apologists to make it sound as if Kerry was actually given the authority to make this offer or that it was actually done with a sense seriousness. Considering it was immediately walked back as "rhetorical" and further:
“His point was that this brutal dictator with a history of playing fast and loose with the facts cannot be trusted to turn over chemical weapons, otherwise he would have done so long ago,” the spokeswoman, Jen Psaki, said in a statement. “That’s why the world faces this moment.”
Point was it was a huge blunder and turned the ball over to the Russians. It now puts Russia in the drivers seat as far as influence in the middleast is considered, seeing as the seem to be the only ones capable of keeping the peace. On the one hand it preserves peace and as such is likely the best possible outcome on the other it so indicative of how amateur the admin is."Just puttin on the foil" - Jeff Hanson

As expected, the whole playground fiasco resulted in a masterful solution that the administration put into action over a year ago when they became fast friends with Putin "the punisher". Seems the idea of Putin taking away little Bashar's little toys was something that was suggested to his new buddy a whole year ago. Who'ld a thunk it.
Brilliance!!!!

John Kerry is an idiot. Bush was the worst president in history. But Kerry would have also been terrible. I'm glad he didn't win in 2004.
Also, the Russian plan is a huge gift to Obama. Public opinion is firmly against the strikes. He was painted into a corner and had to act (whether by his own statements or some sort of international "norm"). Putin seems to have bailed his ass out.To us, it is the BEAST.

Putin's out is surprising. I can only imagine he's just sick to death of having to listen to this embarrassing ordeal any longer. If there is no sound in space, how come you can hear the lasers?
