"western" Antarctica... globe thread

I just read an article that referred to "western Antarctica". That doesn't make sense to me. There is no western Antarctica. There's only a southern antarctica... the south pole. Every other direction away from that point is north. So the rest of Antarctica away from the south pole is "northern Antarctica". Locations can be west or east relative to other spots. But there can't ever be a west or east.

Right?

I believe western antarctica is the bit in the western hemisphere especially the Antarctic Peninsula.
