The Jewish people have been living in Palestine for 4000 years. How does this statement even make sense?

I put it in quotes Plato. It is a point people debate.

It doesn't but it seems a rather selective argument.

ahh..gotcha. Sorry. I do agree that the dual heritage of that area is the root of the problem though.

Actually though...to be consistent. I believe the Kurds should have their own homeland as well. Simply because they don't doesn't change the jewish people's rights.

For the record, I'm not anti-Israel.

I was a supporter for years when the Palestinians were "their own worst enemies".

Now that they are both their own worst enemies I am mainly apathetic.

I'm becoming more that way. I really struggle to maintain support in the face of the endless settlement building.

Step one for me to put the Palestinians on equal footing with the Israelis is for all Palestinian factions to agree that Israel has the right to exist.
Step two is to stop the senseless attacks on Israel.

For Israel to continue to have my support all factions need to agree that Palestine needs a state and that its capital should be East Jerusalem

Of course Jews have a right to exist, because members of every ethnic group have that right, but claiming all ethnic groups are entitled to a state of their own is ludicrous.

Not all ethnic groups have any desire to be parceled off together into separate states, but when you have groups like the Jews and Kurds who have suffered centuries of oppression, it's understandable that they might want to break off on their own, and it's difficult to argue against.

Particularly when the have ancient claims to the land themselves.

Difficult to argue against if you think establishing a separate state is significantly easier and less messy than simply getting already existing governments to recognize human rights.

I thought this thread was about how awesome the Japanese are.

If they are a distinct group like the Kurds who are part of other nations due to conquest and who have been fighting for a separate homeland for this long, why would they be happy remaining under the authority of their existing governments?
