Zimmerman clearly poses a physical threat to others in society around him. He is reckless and chose to initiate a situation where people's lives were put in jeopardy for no good reason. Regardless of what else happened in the sequence of events, it is clear I wouldn't want him free to be in my neighborhood chasing after people in the dark while carrying a deadly weapon. Would you?

seriously, its a messed up situation for everyone involved but putting zimmerman in jail wont make it better

it'll make it worse, Martin didn't deserve to die and Zimmerman dont deserve a jail cell

but Martin started the fight and I haven't seen "any" evidence to the contrary

Next time you want to murder someone, you should clearly ring up the cops in advance, scrape your head lightly on the floor and then just claim the guy was trying to beat you to death. Make sure he's black though, because everyone knows those guys must be just looking for an excuse to attack people.

True, the scraped head and subsequent lies could always have just been made up on the spot in panic.

I don't actually believe that incidentally, I think the guy was just an over zealous weirdo whose irresponsible actions led to the completely needless death of an innocent boy. I can't help but think though that it seems quite easy to just deliberately fabricate these same circumstances in future, if anyone had the desire.

The medical examiner testified that Zimmerman's injuries could only have come from having his head slammed against the pavement. Kentonio, your story sounds like a ****ing conspiracy theory.

Worse thing have been deliberately fabricated. And I'm sure that people will continue to attempt it regardless of what was experienced here.
People have been trying to get away with murder for a long long time. And also confident that many have.

Also someone occasionally getting away with murder because people are allowed to defend themselves against lethal violence is better than the alternative. There will always be murder cases where there isn't enough evidence to convict, because we have the standard of innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt (and because in a murder with no witnesses and no clear relationship between the victim and any possible perpetrators is very difficult to solve). Unless you propose we either a) get rid of the right of self defense entirely or b) get rid of the standard of guilt or c) both then Zimmerman would never be convicted (especially considering he is most likely not guilty anyway).

I couldn't agree more, and if you check earlier in the thread, I stated that even though I personally believe that he's guilty, they don't have enough to convict. I don't have to like it, but as you said, I would like alternative systems even less.

Agreed, No he hasn't. But there are way too many people out there that claim he's a hero. That is equally sad.
