Brad, my B.C. Longicuada is lounging in his tree:

I wasn't born with enough middle fingers.

This is our newest cat, Gibby.

You can read his story here, on Galnemer's blog.

Incidentally, anyone have any advice on how to best get rid of big-ass fur knots and mats on a giant cat's back?

Nice, you fattened him up good.

He's around 23 pounds now. About 14 when we found him. Big for a cat, but for a guy his frame... he was starving to death. So malnourished that we could count his ribs, he couldn't grow fur (obviously), and he was actually in mild heart failure thanks to the malnutrition.

Very nice, Guy. My family took in a stay when I was a kid. She had feline leukemia and died a year or so later. Despite being a stray she was a friendly cat. She was a grey shorthair, similar looking to yours.

I brush my cat a couple times a week. Seems to do the trick.

              ACK!

This suckers are HUGE. Brushing is about as effective as the Detroit Lions secondary.

Yeah, once it's matted in those knots, you have to cut them out. Brushing isn't an option at that point. You can wait. Eventually they'll fall out. It may take time and isn't comfortable for the cat.

What's huge? The mats in the hair or the cat?

Cut the mats out first, THEN brush the cat at regular intervals.

My cat is about 25 pounds or so.

Giant Stray Cat has been shaved.

                            He looks ridiculous.

But he no longer indignantly yowls whenever we touch his lower back.

No cats yet, but we're probably adopting these two guys tonight when we go to visit them. Brothers have have quite bonded.
