Impolite and offensive to some. Straightforward and spontaneous to others. I'd try to be less concerned about people that can't handle overt talk.

You're way over interpreting. I don't make friends with people who are genuinely offended by the things I say.

Then why do you describe yourself as someone who's impolite and offensive, rather than as someone who talks the straight talk?

As I said, I think Lori's problem is that he is too introspective and self focused.

Some times people are this way and it is a 'mental' issue.

Other times people are this way and are just considered selfish or something.

It is very common, it is all just in how it is expressed.

I think that Lori should try to be less self focused (you can still be introspective) and these 'symptoms' would not be an issue.

An obvious example is this 'straight talk' versus 'something is wrong with me/I can't relate'. The latter is focused on 'me', the former is just factual and can be 'me' neutral (can also be turned egotistical, of course).

I appreciate the advice, JM, but if there were one, simple explanation for my various problems that could be solved by a single change, I would have dealt with it a long time ago. I'm paying a professional to help me deal with these problems, and she's been very helpful so far. It may seem ridiculous to pay another person when all I have to do is X, but I've been going at this alone for something like fifteen years now with very little to show for it.

Any shrink who doesn't give you MDMA is a quack.

Unfortunately, she's only a licensed clinical professional counselor, so she doesn't have the authority to prescribe me anything. She is hot, though, so there is that.

From Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for Adult Asperger Syndrome: "It is noteworthy that people with AS usually respond positively to [learning about AS]. As mentioned, one of the only domains in which many of them have been successful is academic, so they are often enthusiastic about learning. Many are bright people who enjoy acquiring new facts. [They] will conduct extensive library or Internet research and read beyond the therapy assignments." Heh.

"[The AS] community has been described by some as a subculture, and they refer to themselves affectionately as 'Aspies' or 'Spectrumites'..." Dude, Spectrumite? That's a way more awesome nickname than Aspie.

Gonna have to disagree. It sounds like an old-person's vitamin, possibly mixed with Vegemite.
