  • Went fishing

Galveston all night pier fishing. Caught two shark and 10 gafftop. Numerous other trash fish, one clump of seaweed, other people's lines and a few crabs but they don't count.
Other people around me were catching red drum, black drum, sharks and gafftop as well. Odd that I never got a run from the drum.
Same bait. same area, just weird.
After getting home, checked the local news and a health warning was put into effect concerning eating the shark. Mercury levels have been found in high concentrations in the top of the food chain fish. Wish I had known this before killing them.
Kept the jaws as a souvenir and had to throw the rest away, shame.

I know some of you normal people like to fish.
    Do the nerds enjoy fishing?
    Lets talk fishing.

Nothing yet but the neighborhood pond has blue gill, crappie, trout and carp in it. I have no idea what do use on the panfish but I'd like to catch some. Really after steelhead, rainbows and salmon runs in this neck of the woods.

I want to fish salmon. I've heard and seen that they put up a good fight.

If you use light line, crappie are similar to fishing for black bass, but they're better eating. I don't eat fish, but I like to fish and release.

              What kind of lures/bait?

Salmon range in the 30lb+ weight class and do fight hard. We also have sturgeon here...big brutes but like pulling an old couch off the bottom...

I used to fish a lot with my dad when I was younger. Fishing is fun, but you need someone to share the experience with.

Was using a variety of bait, squid, shrimp, chad, finger mullet, small crabs and cut mullet.
10' surf rod with a 14 penn open reel with 50lbs test. Wind was blowing too hard for lures, but if.......would have used a silver spoon on a zepco 303 with 15-20 lbs test.

The thing about big game fish is you must use a steal liter about 18", shark especially, teeth will cut right through naked line.
