  • What American Accent do you have?

Can this quiz accurately name your American accent? Boston, Southern, Mid-western and beyond, just take the quiz and see.

I think that Mary/Merry/Marry one meant to have 'Mary/Marry sound the same but Merry is different' as the option but was a typo.

    Unsurprisingly for me:

What American accent do you have?
    Your Result: Philadelphia

    87%
Your accent is as Philadelphian as a cheesesteak! If you're not from Philadelphia, then you're from someplace near there like south Jersey, Baltimore, or Wilmington. if you've ever journeyed to some far off place where people don't know that Philly has an accent, someone may have thought you talked a little weird even though they didn't have a clue what accent it was they heard.

"I have nothing against Wilson, but he's nowhere near the same calibre of QB as Flutie. Flutie threw for 5k+ yards in the CFL." -Ben Kenobi

Even given the analysis, I don't think it's accurate. Texas is different .

What American accent do you have?
    Your Result: The Midland 95%

"You have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent." You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio.

    The South 69%
    The West 69%
    The Inland North 48%
    Philadelphia 40%
    Boston 38%
    The Northeast 33%
    North Central 32%

A North-East one, allegedly. And there I was thinking it was a Somerset accent.

Intriguingly, I get the same 87% mark for "Philadelphia" as Albie does.

My grandparents (mother's side) were from Illinois so my mother spoke like them though I grew up in California.

            The Inland North at 83%.

Should collar and caller sound different? I've freaked my wife out by saying them aloud again and again.

To me, all the words used are pronounced differently. I was wondering if 'sauce' and 'source' would be a question, as they are pronounced the same to my ear.

The Midland result does not mention Iowa, where I'm from.

It doesn't mention Utah either, but it says I have that accent.

That's a Southern accent you've got there. You may love it, you may hate it, you may swear you don't have it, but whatever the case, we can hear it.

You may think you speak "Standard English straight out of the dictionary" but when you step away from the Great Lakes you get asked annoying questions like "Are you from Wisconsin?" or "Are you from Chicago?" Chances are you call carbonated drinks "pop."
