My roommate and I once did an experiment with my cat. This was back in the day; I was a bit more "420" back then shall we say...
I started with a new box - nice and cozy. Cat loved it, would jump right in.
Every day, I would take my utility knife and cut off a bit from the top.
Every day, the cat would jump right back in.
The idea was to find the point at which the cat would cease to perceive the structure as a "box."
Got it down to a quarter-inch and it didn't matter.
Cut it all the way off, so the ex-box was now just a flat piece of cardboard in the middle of the floor.
Didn't matter. It was a box, dammit, and Boo Boo was damn well going to climb in.
