We sort of drifted gradually into the understanding that we'd be getting married. She insisted that I actually ask her, in person (we started out as a long-distance relationship) purely for formality's sake. So I waited for her at the end of the driveway as she drove in from Boston. I believe my exact words were "wanna get hitched?" Worked for her.
