Authorities respond to reports of gunfire on MIT campus

(CNN) -- Police and the FBI have responded to reports of gunshots on the campus of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, which is adjacent to Boston, according to MIT. They have surrounded and cordoned off one building.

The university requested people stay away from Building 32, as police consider the situation still active.

People in the Boston area have been on edge after two bombs ripped through the crowd near the finish line of the Boston Marathon, killing three people and injured 183 more.

An MIT police officer was shot and killed Thursday night. In addition, police were led on a chase into Watertown, where a gunfight and explosives were detonated. There is no word yet whether the incidents are related or if either is related to the Boston Marathon bombings.

A suspect and an officer were shot.

Amend grenades to grenades and automatic weapons. They went to a lot of effort; it takes a fair amount of skill to build those.
