Does representative democracy really work?

There was a thread some time ago where Kuci and Jag argued that in the US the laws which actually pass are supported by the mojority of the US population thus proving that democracy works.

This was in relation to a "corporations are people" debate.

This news however seems to back up the fears of the people who thought that ulimited contributions by corporations would lead to laws being passed which only benefit those corporations.

A bill to keep the government operating through the end of September contained an unrelated provision that protects genetically modified food. While some say it's unconstitutional, a provision of the bill prohibits the courts from pulling an unsafe genetically modified product from the market.

I am interestd if the proponents of citezens united still think that there is no problem with corporations being people.

That sort of thing has happened long before Citizens United. You get a bill called the We Love Mom, Applie Pie and Fluffy Bunny Rabbits Act, and find it loaded with unrelated ****. Standard Operating Procedure.
