I know this. And it is equally as silly.

Gourmet burgers be amazing. I still eat Wendy's, but I know a burger from (in Atlanta) the Vortex or Farmburger is going to be well beyond those.

But I'm not about to pretend that what I like is on a pedestal so far above those.

Maybe its because you haven't had beers that deserves to be on that pedestal .

Wendy's seems to differ in quality by location. The wendys here in pittsburgh are ****ing terrible, not sure why, doesn't taste as good as the wendys back home. Not a huge fan of wendys in general to begin with though.

You mentioned that you don't like Guinness, which I don't blame you as it has had its recipe changed numerous times to remove all character from the beer, but go ahead and compare it to other stouts like an AleSmith Speedway Stout. You will instantly taste the difference and not in any subtle way. One is bland and nonoffensive while the other is full of character.

I like burgers. They are damn good. I agree that most corporate fast food is garbage. However, IMO there is a ceiling in terms of taste versus cost. I wouldn't pay more than $7-10... and there are places in that whole "gourmet" category that charge as much. It's just not worth it.

I guess my issue with all this is more about the way such things are described. I'm not going to say that X burger or beer isn't good.

Perhaps I am not the type of person who is going to rave about the stuff. That's all.

They're a smaller chain so they probably rely upon local suppliers in different parts of the country.

My current favorite burger place does quarter pound grass fed free range beef burgers for $8 with all the fixings all made fresh in the restaurant right down to the mayo, mustard, and ketchup. They cook it rare unless you tell them other wise and they can do that because they get fresh shipments in from the local supplier each morning. You can't get rare at most of the chains because they know their CAFO beef is low quality and swimming in germs because of the mass production process. Grass fed beef really is more full flavored but because it is leaner it needs to be served a bit rare so that it doesn't dry out.

It makes for a damn fine burger though so a place which does sell a quality grass fed free range beef burger can charge more and people who want quality will happily pay it because they can taste the difference.

Microbreweries are in such a crowded market in Portland, Oregon that one brewery even has resorted to trying to sell it's beer from a bicycle. They have a custom bike designed to hold two kegs and the guy peddling it sells the pints to passers by. Now that is pretty much Oregon culture summed up right there. Bicycling every where and beer.

It's hard to get a great steak outside of a few big beef producing countries.
