Mount Vernon to sell Washington's rye whiskey

WASHINGTON (AP) — Rye whiskey using George Washington's own recipe will soon go on sale at the first president's Mount Vernon estate in Virginia.

The presidential home reconstructed Washington's distillery and will make more than 1,100 bottles of unaged whiskey available beginning April 4. The bottles sell for $95 each.

Mount Vernon says the rye is the most authentic version of Washington's whiskey available. Washington was a detailed record keeper, and distillers used the same grain recipe and fermentation process as it was done 250 years ago.

Washington's Distillery and Gristmill site opens at Mount Vernon for the season on Saturday.

You wouldn't expect them to actually get the terminology write, now would you?

Naw, it's not worth it to spend $100 on a completely unaged whiskey. Especially since his recipe is online.

Rye gets recognized at a higher level if it's aged at least 2 years. It's not like it's the champagne of whiskeys.

Rye is interesting for novelty, but I much prefer good bourbon or Tennessee whiskey. Gentleman Jack and Jack's single barrel reserve.

I still think there are tons of whiskey possibilities out there just waiting to be explored and tested. We need to deregulate the whiskey distilling industry (well, really just distilling in general) because deregulating the beer market resulted in an explosion of craft beer brewing with a whole new world of stuff most American consumers had never heard of before. We could do the exact same thing for distilled spirits if 1) We could get the knuckling dragging religious right to stop obstructing progress for the rest of America and 2) We could get Congress to wave the liquor tax on home made distilled spirits so a new generation of makers could get trained and up to speed.

It's not political squabbles. It's that you post about Obama more than MrFun posts about gay stuff.
