I've seen youtube videos with owners feeding live mice to large frogs. Other ones, I've seen owners feeding live crickets to tarantulas. I've also seen a live video of a large centipede being fed a live mouse. I've also seen youtube videos of owners of giant water bugs feeding them live, small fish. Besides that, I thought snakes were not scavengers; I thought they would only consume prey that they have actually killed.
There are a number of reasons to feed F/T prey: it's safer for me, it's far, far more convienent as i've got a two gallon bag of frozen mice in my freezer right now, and it's actually safest for the snake too. i've seen examples of snakes mauled by live prey left in the enclosure that aren't pretty; one of them happened to be a three thousand dollar snake, too. the thing is that most snakes hunt using their sense of smell, and the scent of live prey will also saturate the enclosure and the snake won't really know where the prey actually is. also feeding f/t prey one has to heat up the prey in some hot tap water so the animal will recognize the prey as warm. owning an animal like these isn't about the bloodshed, guys.

I learned something new today.
But in addition to heating up a dead, frozen mouse in hot tap water, how do you get your snake to eat a dead animal? Snakes are not scavengers by nature.
A lot of Republicans are not racist, but a lot of racists are Republican.
snakes, to use a technical term, aren't very bright. so if you take prey that has been previously killed, frozen, thawed, warmed, and dangled in front of the snake in motions that vaguely resemble what a prey item might do, the snake will just assume it's something it can eat (and alive).
snakes generally won't eat random carrion they come across, though you do get the odd snake that will eat eggs somehow.

That makes sense.
Oh, and there is a species of snake that specializes in eating eggs.
