Agree. If anyone thinks the Holocaust is worse now because of this information, they obviously didn't think it was terrible enough before. It can't get any worse. It's absolutely horrible.

Lebensraum. Look at the size of the conquered territories in eastern Europe. Given the German penchant for logistics, they probably figured it was easier to set up lots of smallish camps near forced labor sites, than large camps and transport workers back and forth. Lots of mining, timbering and other resource gathering operations, as opposed to the more (in)famous industrial camps.

This is correct, the number is plausible if you include all the satellite camps and work sites. The Soviet gulag was massive for the same reason.

Killing everyone is inefficient. People are resources. The Jews would have worked hard for the Germans. In fact, not all races will work well in captivity, but the Jews are particularly good workers in captivity. The stupidity of the Germans is almost incomprehensible. But since they did make the decision to kill all of the Jews, they even did that inefficiently, for whatever reason, there are much more efficient ways to comit genocide.
