  • Come get your whale vomit.

Apparently whale vomit is extremely valuable and an English man who found a bit of whale vomit on a beach looks set to make a cool $100,000 on the small bit of stinky, hardened whale vomit. Supposedly it is highly valued by perfume makers.

I already knew that, I read Encyclopedia Brown 30+ years ago, there was The Case of Smelly Nellie. Bugs Meany stole her ambergris.

    ACK!
Don't try to confuse the issue with half-truths and gorilla dust!

This is why the old-fashioned perfumes are much better than the modern ones. Modern perfumes are made of sunshine, honeydew and the sighs of rainbows, so the scents just don't last.

Old-school scents, by very sharp contrasts, are made of whale puke, rat's bollocks and the juices carefully squeezed out of a deer's bumhole. Consequently the scents last in a stable form for much longer.

Ken Wilman and his dog Madge, on the beach in Morecambe with the expensive whale vomit.... Victoria Wood to write the screenplay...

I remember when I was living in Melbourne hearing about a woman in New Zealand ? possibly... who managed to soil her dress with ambergris on the beach. It was only when she went to the chemist's to get something to clean it off that she was told what the globby stuff was...

Just love that silly boxer dog in the video. In fact I love all boxer dogs 'cos they are just so daft.

In some countries, including the United States, endangered-species legislation makes it illegal to buy or sell the stuff.
If you're wandering on the beach and happen upon a large mass of some sort of waxy substance, take a closer look. It could be the rare "floating gold" of the sea: ambergris. Find out whether this whale poop can help you retire rich.

          ...why?
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

It's been pretty well established that legal trade in anything related to endangered species will induce people to hunt the critters down to make a buck.

Does no one here watch Futurama?! Or live-action Futurama for that matter? You will be missed.
