The Zionist movement wanted to create a Jewish homeland mainly in reaction to anti-semitism in Europe. I don't think there is much doubt there is a discriminatory motivation for Israel. Although on the racism question it depends how a Jew is defined. If it's religion, which was the main way before the 20th century, then you could argue it's something else. Same if its consciousness - believing you are a Jew, which was the case with the Ethiopians. It was actually the nazis who defined Jews by race with their crackpot theories, which created another group, those who were persecuted for being Jews for hereditary reasons. The Jewish community in Germany for example was very well assimilated and mainly defined by religion and self-identification before the nazis came along. It was a different story in Eastern Europe.

Genetic studies are showing that there is very little difference between ME Jews and Palestinians, not enough really to say they are separate ethnic groups from a genetic viewpoint, although they very much are for other reasons.

The Ethiopians, the so-called lost tribe, were controversial additions to the Jewish state. What was done to them was wrong and it does suggest some sort of racial concern. But Israel itself was established on secular principles, quite rational ones, and there may have been other motivations like their poverty, their health or to assist their assimiliation somehow. Still wrong though if true.

Personally I think Israel won't have peace until they and the Arabs accept a non-discriminatory multi-ethnic solution. The fact is the Jews always shared that land with other peoples, the Palestinians today, the Philistines, Greeks, Phoenecians and many others historically. It was never purely Jewish, it was a melting pot in ancient times, an international cross-roads, even during the time of the short-lived early Israelite kingdoms, which we now know from archeology were multi-ethnic and based on judai-ist hilltribes and inland towns. Something similar to the Druze in Lebanon and Syria, but more dominant of the region at different times.

Unfortunately the people coming into Israel, particularly the settler extremists have a very poor understanding of the region's history. They live in a fairy tale world. The fanatics on the Arab/muslim side are no better.
