  • But if you stop and think, however old-fashioned that may seem these days, do you seriously believe that millions more people can be given medical care and vast new bureaucracies created to administer payment for it, with no additional costs?
We could do it and actually lower costs. (Not saying the methods to do so would necessarily be "good", just that it's certainly possible.)

For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio

You seem to forget that at the time the bill was being passed, democrats had massive majorities in the house AND a Senate, which was filibuster-proof in the latter.

It was not Republicans who killed single-payer, it was the American people who killed it. And good ****ing thing too.

It also wasn't lobby money. They had to bribe a ton of senators with army bases and subsidies and **** for their home states to get them to vote for it, and a bunch of those senators lost their jobs anyway.

This is largely a fiction. They had an extremely small window where they could be considered in any way 'fillibuster-proof', and the blue dogs basically meant they never were. Democracts can be conservative too unfortunately.

Yeah, it'd be terrible if all Americans has healthcare at a far more affordable rate for everyone.

If you don't think insurance company lobbying played any part in one of the biggest handouts to insurance companies ever, then I have a bridge in Alaska to sell you.

The window was not small. And the only reason it closed was because Massachusetts, one of the bluest states there is, voted in Scott Brown in response to the Democrat overreach in trying to pass Obamacare.

              • Your argument is that the democratic party was too conservative for Obama. I'm done.

Democratic senators from places like Nebraska might be too conservative for Obama.

Because god forbid they try actually working with Republicans.

I have a delusional hope that Obama isn't going to fine me for not buying insurance (or rather, not going on medicaid) that I wouldn't be able to use anyways.
