    Although bad-mouthing The Rock was entirely uncalled for. The man has 8 million Facebook likes ... which while it pales in comparison to the likes of Vin Diesel ... is probably still more than all the names, books, movies, and anything else you've ever mentioned combined

      Sorry, I didn't google the phrase or movie in question- whichever phrase or film it was. And anyway, I was on a film watching high- I found 4 films I wanted at the local HMV with a nice 25% discount too and just felt like sharing.

      You deserve to watch 'Zoltan Hound Of Dracula' repeatedly now, for being simply beastly to me. :;

        I'm sorry if I jeopardized your on-going meta troll of HC and Reg. I really don't like horror films unless they're unbelievably bad.

            Ahhh, crap. J.J. Abrams is slated to direct Star Wars VII. For a little while there I'd hoped it wouldn't suck.

              What do you have against JJ Abrams? The new star trek was great.

                You must be using a different definition of "great." That movie failed even as a dumb action flick--lots of generic flashy lights and explosions, nothing of actual visual interest (except Zoe Saldana). And the plot was gibberish. Complete gibberish. His Star Trek never tried to be intelligent; I have confidence that his Star Wars won't try to be mythic.

                An actual analysis of all the things wrong with that movie would have me typing for hours, so just consider the end, where Nero's ship is being eaten by the dreaded, ridiculously inconsistent plot device known as Red Matter. Kirk offers to rescue him, he refuses. Okay. We've clearly established that Nero is going to die, right? He basically wants to die. No further action is needed. So why does Kirk hang around shooting the already-doomed ship, thereby putting himself and everyone else on the Enterprise into totally unnecessary danger (the black hole) that nearly kills them all twenty seconds later? Yes, I know, it's a silly action movie. So was Die Hard, but McClane didn't jump out the damn window to shoot Gruber as he was falling. Because that would be stupid. If you're not even going to ask for a basic level of rationality or consistency, why watch a movie at all? Just go to a rave club and stare at the strobe light for a couple of hours.

                (takes deep breath)

                  It was a very enjoyable movie, and the plot didn't have to be Citizen Kane or something. It's an action flick. Get the **** over yourself.

                  Dude, Die Hard is probably the best action movie ever made. It's a classic. The fact that Star Trek didn't measure up to that is not a valid critique.

                      The new Star Trek was awesome. The new Star Wars should hopefully also be awesome now Abrams is involved.

                          New Star Trek was great. Anyone who says differently is, obviously, wrong.

                          I am excited for JJ Abrams to be directing the new Star Wars. I loved Super 8 and Fringe (though I think he may have only directed the pilot of that one and was just the producer).

                            This. Elok is a horrible critic. He can't differentiate genres and seems to take personal offense at many of them.

                              I actually did not like Super 8. I felt it was trying too hard to be Spielberg, but lacked the magic. That said, it was certainly better than other movies that made such an attempt.

                              The thing with Abrams' movies is that you can't get hung up on the plot. If you do, you will not enjoy the movie. Fringe was great and I will miss it, but it had tons of plot holes. Still I'd accept ten times the amount for more episodes with those characters. Lost was the same.

                              Now, with all that said, I'm not happy with Abrams taking the reigns of the new Star Wars movies. He will do an acceptable job, but I'd rather see someone different do something interesting with them. As much good work as he has done, I still don't want a Abrams dominated entertainment world.

                                Whatever. That movie was utter **** that barely aspired to mediocrity (and insulted the franchise it tried to reboot about eight different ways), but I'm not going to try to persuade you. Just remember that you all have terrible taste. Which, I suppose, means you can always find something at the movies to entertain you, so it's not all bad.
