You wouldn't want to go on a hump with ICB's... wut? What would you want to wear?

Summers are unbelievably horrible? ICB's and Jungles (which I assume are the same as 'summers') felt the same to me. There's no big difference to how they feel.

I don't know what ICBs and Jungles are but you should know that the army and marines don't issue the same boots (at least I'm pretty sure they don't.)

My hiking boots are shorter on my leg, meaning they aren't as hot, but they also provide support higher on the foot and ankle. Like, a lot more support.

The summer boots issued to me are terrible because the soles are like wood, the leather digs into the back of my foot, and they're stupidly wide so they don't lace up tight enough.

This thread was obviously inspired by the footwear section of the Third Directorate of the SSB, and you guys are giving it all up, op sec!
Any views I may express here are personal and certainly do not in any way reflect the views of my employer. Tis the rising of the moon..

Look, I just don't anymore, okay?

          1) ICB's are temperates and Jungles have the little holes at the side
          2) I forgot you're 5'4". I guess standard boot height is problematic
          3) If you have ill-fitting boots that's on you; I assure you the basic construction of the boots is identical no matter the type, unless you're talking something like Bates Lites which are quite different.

I always found the boots quite comfortable. I would not change socks as suggested on the longer humps and I never developed blisters or used foot powders, moleskin, or any of that crap. My feet are a lot tougher than my shins, apparently.

What about running in boots? How do yours feel?

Good to know. Pretty sure we have different boots. My summers have holes in the sides too so I guess they're equivalent to your Jungles. But they're meant for deserts or whatever, I guess.

You're wrong about my height. If you're going to be all creepy stalkery and remember my personal details do me the courtesy of being accurate. Boot height's not an issue anyway; they're not that high up on my leg. I've seen much taller boots. The thing is, they don't actually provide support even up to the ankle. They're good enough for what I've done in them, though.

That's blatantly false. My hiking boots are constructed very, very differently from these. My hiking boots are made of reasonably stiff materials throughout, whereas this is basically a leather hiking shoe with a tall cloth tube attached to it. And everyone I know hates the summer boots, not just me.

I haven't run further than like, across a field in them. Probably less than 200 meters at any given time. At those distances they're fine. I have no idea about running a mile in them; my guess is it would suck.

I'm hopped up on sudafed, nyquil, and scotch. This is makign the thread much more entertaining.

The US Military wants you to wear black socks.
Today, you are the waves of the Pacific, pushing ever eastward. You are the sequoias rising from the Sierra Nevada, defiant and enduring.

All I know is the best selection of high quality socks I ever saw was at the PX at Camp Eggers Kabul, basement level. I bought quite a few pair and it was obvious the smart grunts weren't wearing the regulation issue.

So maybe good socks are war winners. "The battle was lost but for a boot" after all.

Wow except for the first two weeks, most of the PT done at OCS is in boots.

I suppose they'd give a **** in Infantry BOLC but you know what, I don't give a **** if a quartermaster officer can even pass a PT test, much less run in boots. Or military intelligence, or finance, or AG corps, for that matter.

The only PT **** I've done is morning PT where we do crossfit type stuff. The first rule of PT for us is to keep people from getting injured at all.

Every Marine is a rifleman. Different culture.
