Alby claimed in this thread that in Real America™ public schools have metal detectors at the entrances. So I ask you, fellow Real Americans™, are there metal detectors in your schools?

None currently that I'm aware of, but I believe some San Diego area high schools have had them, and I've seen them in other high schools (though not many and mostly in sketchy areas) in other parts of the state. It's not a common practice, but there have been occasions where it's been done in selected schools. I've never heard of it in middle school or lower here, but I'd expect in some cities, you'd have metal detectors at day care.
