Once I got my tablet, I never use my e-reader anymore. Maybe I should sell it.

Ah, true. Why only get an e-reader anymore, when a multi-purpose tablet has e-reader capability?

        Because they suck.

I've got a Nexus 7 & an iPad Retina, and I still read with my Kindle. The tablets are heavy and hard on the eyes for a long time reading (the backlight).

I didn't think about the backlight. But aren't there tablets now that weigh only one and half pound?

There's also the question of battery life. I charge my Kindle maybe once a month. I charge my tablet every day. Kindle is also much lighter than 1.5 pounds, it's around half a pound.

Studies have also shown the backlight makes it harder to sleep at night. I mostly read before bed, so that matters to me.

“Our study shows that a two-hour exposure to light from self-luminous electronic displays can suppress melatonin by about 22%. Stimulating the human circadian system to this level may affect sleep in those using the devices prior to bedtime.”

If you want a device to read, an e-ink based e-reader is what to get. Easier on the eyes than LCD and, as Asher points out, allows for you to sleep if you read it before bed. Also the battery on an e-reader lasts at least a month.

If you are only reading sparingly, then maybe a tablet is worth it - but for a reader, get something worth it.
