    Interesting question. To put it a bit more gently:

    Beyond simply having a different sexual preference or taking on "non-traditional" roles, transsexuals believe they require a physical change to take on the role they want. Does this constitute an acceptance of gender roles?

      Probably because they have no problem with gender roles, but they do not feel comfortable in the gender they were born as. I believe the term is gender dysphoria.

      There are also individuals whose gender is ambiguous at birth where parents and doctors make life altering decisions which the individuals later want to reverse.

      For people who rebel against gender roles look to queers.
