Virginia's black population is almost entirely in the southern part of the state IIRC. The black people in the Washington Metro area live primarily in DC and Prince George's County.

      • CNN exit poll: Virginia party identification D/R/I is 39/33/28
Obama slightly more "favorable" than "unfavorable" while for Romney it's the reverse.

edit: Obama and Romney both at 49% in exit poll.

        • Romney will of course will Indiana but it's a bit ridiculous that they're calling it after 2% of the vote. What exactly is gained by this nonsense?

So far CNN has only called Kentucky and Vermont. What are you watching?

              • BBC, so it'll be ABC. Huffpo meanwhile just called Vermont for Obama after.. 0% of the vote.

                • Everyone called Vermont with 0% of the vote months ago so that's fine by me.

                  • It's just a bugbear of mine. Watched a fair few elections when they had to tweak later due to stupid early calls.

                      • Hilarious moment when the BBC woman called SC for Republicans and then clicked the graphic to see the details which showed Obama leading by 77%.

With only two parties of consequence, our results are very stable. Most states should just be called with 0% of the vote in. Sure, they should tread lightly with even the super-marginal swing states like Missouri or Arizona or Minnesota, but not Vermont.

So colour the map for those states from the start, and save us the pseudo-suspense of waiting for each one to be 'called'.

                            • Looks like Ben's map is already wrong. South Carolina and Indiana have been called for Romney.

I wonder how wrong the exit polls will be this year. With numbers so close, the usual 2-5 point error or so will make a difference.
