I made a donation to the red cross and then saw it dominate the TV for several days. Yeah, that's about it.

Neither, actually...I mean, maybe somebody brought a bible. I doubt any of them brought guns with them. It's a helo unit. Unless they just didn't bother to take the door guns off? I have no idea if they remove them or not.

My brother and his family are still without power. they will probably remain so for another 3-4 days, because of their location and what needs to be done even before power can be restored. They have a generator, but gas is hard to come by and goes quick. They expect snow.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

They should have an electric generator.

Uhh....SlowwHand? That's...er. That's sorta not how it works.

I would suggest a gas generator hooked up to the gas line, but the gas is probably out too.

From the post you quoted: They have a generator, but gas is hard to come by and goes quick. They expect snow.

Now if you had said something about storing having more fuel on hand to begin with if you go to the trouble of having a generator, you'd have more of a point.

Do they have a wood stove or at least one of those more efficient fire places?

Storing fuel for a gas powered generator is kind of hard since gas only lasts about six months tops before going bad. A better option is a propane powered generator or a diesel powered generator with a large storage tank. It wouldn't be cheap though especially if you're trying to run regular household appliances.
