Thanks to everyone for their recommendations.

Re: South, et. al., We are quite familiar with many of the opportunities that many places outside of SF and NYC offer in the states. In fact, one of the easier option for us to relocate would be Vancouver,WA. However, we both agree that we need a very strong tech oriented city, preferrably a start-up hub of worldwide experience and fame, a world city sort to speak, for us to really see the benefit for going. We are both very well set as it is in Israel.

Horse, thanks for the insights, and had we desired permament immigration, Australia would make a solid choice, indeed. However, the plan is, basically:

-Work for 2-3 years
-Make some connections
-Save some money
-Use this as a big boost in experience.
-Have fun.

Australia is an option, however.

Browsing through job sites, I did see a fair amount of places open to sponsor an H1-B in the US. However, what really surpised me is the relatively miniscule amount of export oriented jobs, especially towards the CIS? Don't people in the states know that Russia is still very much a boom market especially if you have the know-how and the know-who? EU, as well, is still a big market, although an ill one.

Maybe I am not looking at the right spots? I know that if I go to a recruiter website in Israel, I have several jobs of that nature, and this is a tiny country!

As I understand Russia is a very difficult market for US companies due to American laws about bribery of foreign officials, and the widespread corruption there.

Vancouver Washington is right across a river from Portland, but I agree. Portland is not a world city.

You could make a shorter list of cities you wouldn't live in.

Denver is borderline but I love coasts. I would live there because of snow season though

Charleston is for old ****s
Atlanta is like a less cultural LA
Kansas City is literally devoid of anything outside of BBQ
Minneapolis has terrible weather and is full of white people
SLC is a hub of mormons which are the least fun religion ever
Charlotte is bland, uninteresting, and unworldly
Tampa is a complete ****hole of strip malls and mediocrity
Miami is like Tampa but with better architecture and food
Raleigh is the Peoria of NC

Nashville has one thing going for it and that thing is Country Music, if you like that sort of thing
Alburquerque is tiny and full of weirdos
Pheonix is a ginormous sprawl of awful people, that don't give a **** about anything but themselves and is dirty. Pheonix is the antithesis of any sort of living I would want.
New Orleans is a ****hole that is only good for visiting
Houston is like New Orleans but without any of the visiting.

You really need to com out here and take a look around. The region has hundreds of fantastic local original restaurants, a vibrant arts scene, three major sports teams (including SportingKC, a top tier soccer club) and a half dozen minor ones, dozens of theatres, more urban parkland per capita than any other region and incredibly low cost of living given all that.

Best of all, KCMO is adjacent to Johnson County, Kansas. Seriously. Wealthy, educated, high tech, cheap.

Kansas City really isn't a bad place (my wife's family lives in/near there). Lots of stuff to do there. Not just BBQ, though that is good And it's sufficiently close to a lot of places (St Louis, Chicago, New Orleans, etc.) that you can take short vacations easily via car.
