Even though NYC and SF have high costs of living, if you're only going to be here 2-3 years, you want to live in a place where there is **** to do and experience and enjoy as much as possible. You don't want to live in Nebraska for 2-3 years with a Walmart, a VFW bar, 2 restaurants and 1 gas station

Yeah but it doesn't have to be some expensive community on one of the coasts. Nashville for instance has lots to do and is much cheaper.

Which brings us back to Johnson County, Kansas. Seriously. Wealthy, educated, high tech, cheap.

No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

Cheapness doesn't matter if you're going to be here for 2-3 years with well paying jobs. ****ing Nashville. Good ****ing god.

Traditionally, San Jose and San Francisco have been two of the top metro areas to work in technology. That’s because Silicon Valley is largely comprised the San Jose metropolitan area, and San Francisco is also home to the famed region. According to data released from a recruiting firm named CyberCoders, though, that much has changed. In a release published by the firm, Houston was actually listed as the top city for tech jobs. San Jose came in second, while San Francisco was fifth. The third and fourth spots on the list were occupied by Philadelphia and Dallas, respectively.

There is plenty to do in any decently sized metro area.

Why gimp yourself by choosing Pittsburgh over NYC?

Wait, when did I suggest Pittsburgh? Pittsburgh sucks. I tolerate it because Carnegie Mellon is awesome. But I'm getting the hell out of here and back to northern Virginia when I'm done.

Pittsburgh could be an example of a decently size metro area.

AFAIC the only places in the US worth living (metro area)

                          MRT

                          Those are all hipster/yuppie cities.

How about Denver, Charleston SC, Atlanta, Kansas City, Minneapolis, Salt Lake City, Charlotte, Tampa, Miami, and Raleigh?

Nashville, Albuquerque, Phoenix, New Orleans, and Houston should also be on that list. My bad.

For someone from upstate NY, you really seem like you wanna be in the South. Not that there's anything wrong with that, of course

I would say come to Rochester but I would be laughed out of the room.

And it's more that MRT already listed a lot of the good non-Southern cities. Note that many of the ones I listed were west/midwest.
