I keep buying the new civ titles and not playing them

I have multiple copies of civ V and IV, plus civ anthologies. I have never played civ V. I have at least two copies.

I still like civ 2 the best. I would still play civ I if I could be arsed working out how to use DOSbox. I miss the advisers in civ 2 and 1, which I can't get to play anymore on late model comps.

I think I'm becoming a hoarder, look out for me on one of those reality shows.

Anyone else doing this? I just can't resist the discount bin at the games shop. I have all sorts of games I have never played.

I have Civ4, and never played it. I'm thinking about getting Civ5, eventhough I don't have a machine that can run it.


Civ2 was indeed best of them. (of first three, of course.)

I have Civ V - played it, and - bah, actually bought it pre-release , wasted money, not hoarding anything related to Civ V. I also got Civ Rev for my daughter on DS - nada - waste.

Civ IV on the other hand, have only one copy of it and one of the expansions each, in the right order - and it's the best Civ for me, yet. I still play it, even though I switched to playing mods, years ago (Realism Invictus right now). It is better and longer played than Civ II for me, which is the next best Civ game, Civ CTP and especially community CTP II, are great too, were fun, and if I could be bothered to find all the files and set CTP II again on my latest PC, I bet I would have fun with it... which brings me to Civ III - OK for me, and SMAC - overdue a good second version, onto the original Civ - which was great in many ways, except AI. I'd love to have the original Civ with many of it's unpolished rules, but decent 2010 AI to run it. That'd be great.

I haven't bought any of the new versions since civ 3 came out. I guess civ 3 is ok, but it wasn't worth the money since it wasn't really better than SMAC or Civ 2.

I'm still playing Civ 5, The new Steam format allows a player to directly download mods into the game. There are hundreds of mods available. That means that everytime I play a new game I can use a new mod, changing the experience.

Lol. I think you're not wrong, but it's okay with me; they make dramatic changes in odd numbered releases, then refine the experience in even numbered ones; combining the learning curve Firaxis has with new feature balancing, with the 'ick, new feature bad' in the odd numbered release. Then when even number comes you are okay with the differences and get a more polished experience.

I just hope 6 has the good features of 5 (1UPT, hexes, etc.) , but refining/fixing the bad ones (boring maps, too much emphasis on preventing growth, etc.) rather than giving up and starting again (meaning we'd have two meh iterations in a row, potentially crippling the series).

Civ4 is great and I still routinely play it. To compare I haven't bothered to fire up Civ5 for months simply because the game sucks.

I bought the Civ II boxed edition in a charity shop recently and reacquainted myself with the joys of Civ II. And nuclear war 1979. Still haven't played CIV IV...
