In the middle of September, a previous poll by Pew found that 29% of likely voters identify as Republicans and 39% identify as Democrats. That previous poll had given Obama an 8 point lead.

The Pew poll was too heavily weighted toward Republicans. A +3 Democratic advantage among voters seems likely.
