Are you saying our cheese is poisonous?

What the **** are you saying?

Canadian cheese is sooooo much better you're willing to pay something like an 80% markup on it? And not only that, it's better entirely in ways that are intangible?

Nope you moron, it's not 80%, and the harmful effects of industrial agriculture are not limited to taste.

The quota system is slightly better, but mostly accidentally.

Don't tell me Canada doesn't have industrial agriculture because that's bull****.

I've been eating "industrial agriculture" foods my whole life, and you probably have been too. Tell me, what about it is so horrible?

And it sure looks like 80% when I compare prices for food between Niagara Falls, New York and Niagara Falls, Ontario.

Didn't we already establish you have poor taste in another thread?

I would assume the 200k and 365k prices are comparable - either both retail or both not. Probably not, I'd say; pizzerias should be able to get cheese wholesale, after all, unless they're your home kitchen

We have no problem getting non-industrialized agriculture at a reasonable price here, why do you? Quotas are never, ever, ever a good thing. If people (as a group) are willing to pay for quality/health/whatever, they will. cf: Whole Foods. They will also pay the correct amount extra for said quality/health/etc., which is why Whole Foods prices are actually not that high - for organic food they're much lower than Jewel organic foods usually (one of our local supermarket chains) and overall they're only 20% or so higher for same quality but not organic. The market did that, not some government oversight body. Government quotas would have caused the prices to be much higher, for no reason and with no value added to the consumer.

We already established in this thread that the difference isn't about taste.

Technically there could be an argument that grass-fed milk based cheese tastes {better, worse, the same} as regular corn fed cheese, as they will contain different things in them...

Yeah but I doubt Canadian cheeses are actually produced any differently from American cheeses of the same type.

They're not. They're just produced much, much more inefficiently.

Ireland’s dairy sector will create 15,0000 jobs after EU milk quota restrictions end in 2015, said independent economist Ciaran Fitzgerald yesterday at the National Dairy Council conference.

Ireland is estimating that ending the quota system in the E will create 15,000 new dairy sector jobs when the quotas are phased out in 2015. These are supposedly very conservative numbers for just one country, imagine how many it will be in all the EU countries. Oh, and, of course, dairy prices will fall dramatically meaning consumers will be able to spend their money on other things leading to growth in other sectors as well.

                        Efficiency.

Boris is from Quebec. For many there the fact that your behaviour is approved of by Nanny the state is a qualitative feature. This is not restricted to people from Quebec, however it is more prevalent there than in most or all other places in NA. That is a reason why Quebec seems like such an alien place, even to close neighbours.

Is that more true of francophone Quebec than anglo Quebec?

                              Protip: It does taste different.

I think that's pretty hard to prove unless you're a cheese producer and can reliably produce the identical cheese from two different milks... it's entirely possible that they do (in particular, different fat contents likely will cause them to taste differently - similarly to how grassfed steaks are less fatty and less well marbled, thus less 'yummy' according to traditional tastes, but do have a bit more 'beef' taste for those who like their steak rare.
