My biggest chrome annoyance: for some reason today and yesterday it's been inordinately easy to move tabs into new windows. I click on a tab (say, go from Poly to Gmail) and about 10% of the time it decides to create it in a new window. I mostly use ctrl+1-8 for this but since I often have > 9 tabs open, I do have to click sometimes...

We're not allowed to use non-approved flash drives on FDA computers.

Then put the browser on a local hard drive instead. "Portable app" means that the app doesn't need to make changes to the registry etc, meaning that it can be run from a flash drive but isn't required to be run from a flash drive.

When I worked for the DoD they had similar restrictions on flash drives and installed browsers, so we did the same thing I'm recommending that you do - install a portable browser to your local hard drive.

When I was at Lehman, they had nightly processes to scan computers for unauthorized software.

They'd actually hash all the exe's and figure out if you had a Portable Firefox (which i had).

I hex-edited the binary to add some padding, and that solved the problem.

They really, really wanted you to use IE6.

I tried re-routing the cobol through the transverse gigacircuits, but they caught on.

I doubt that - transsverse gigacircuits require quantum computers with reversed polarity.

I keep firefox portable on an encrypted partition (I doubt that there's anything compromising in my cookies, but why take chances), but I suppose that Truecrypt would also have been on the disapproved software list

I worry about the day tech goes beyond my ability to understand it. I don't want to be an old fogie unable to work the banking machine.

The FDA needs quantum computers to encrypt the secret databases that hold the cures for all the diseases Big Pharma doesn't want the rest of the world to know about.
