To kind of continue with this... I'm the type who wants Scott Brown to beat Elizabeth Warren. If I still lived up North, I may still identify with the Republican Party up there. They also kind of ignore all the stuff Jesus likes to say about the poor (also Mary's Magnificat) in the rest of Gospels. Though that is slightly uncharitable. I know of Christians who are Republican because of social issues, who do want the state to do more to help the poor, but feel stuck with the fiscal conservatives due to the way the parties are set up.

Jesus also said to render unto Caesar what is Caesar's, didn't he? So clearly he was a fiscal conservative. He supported charitable giving rather than expecting the government to get involved
Also, there are plenty of us fiscal conservatives who are also irritated the christian 'left' is mixed in the same party with us. Maybe someone should do something about that...
Whigs = Christian Right (Con/Con)
Conservatives = fiscal conservatives, social liberals
Democrats = Lib/Lib
Something Else = Lib/Con (Stalinists?
