So what?Originally posted by Jaguar View PostAre you? The Democratic party does unconscionable, horrific things to the poor.
Far better than the GOP.
They're both evil.

Let's try another one. The Car Allowance Rebate System, also known as Cash for Clunkers. Let's set aside the question of whether it was worthwhile to dole out a one-time series of payments to people for purchasing new, relatively fuel-efficient cars.
Let's just focus on the cars they traded in. The Obama administration demanded that they be destroyed. It could have asked that they be auctioned off instead. These are inexpensive used cars that people were willing to trade in for a few thousand dollars - lower middle class cars. Cars that could have been sold to the poor (or even, for that matter, given to the poor) at no additional cost to the government. Instead they were destroyed.
The Obama administration exhibited a revealed preference here. They would rather that old cars be destroyed than given to the poor. I disagree."You're the biggest user of hindsight that I've ever known. Your favorite team, in any sport, is the one that just won. If you were a woman, you'd likely be a slut." - Slowwhand, to Imran

The GOP does not support policies intended to keep poor people in poverty. The Democrats do, and they do it under the guise of "protecting the middle class". In reality, they are protecting incumbent members of the market. It's crony capitalism. It's morally wrong.Originally posted by Asher View PostSo what?

Yes, let's talk about car policies. I'll see your anger about Democratic policies for automobiles and counter with the fact that the GOP thinks poor people should either ****ing die or pay off outrageous medical bills for the rest of their lives.Originally posted by Jaguar View PostLet's try another one. Even worse, it was a blatant example of the broken window fallacy, and the democrats fully embraced it as a payoff to the auto industry. Taking money from everyone else, and giving it to their campaign donors. Everything the democrats accuse the republicans of doing, they do themselves tenfold.Originally posted by Jaguar View PostLet's try another one. You have such a stereotypically tilted view of the world."The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."

Honestly, are you two even aware how absurd you are?
To hear you guys talk, the GOP cares about poor people and are morally upstanding politicians without corruption or stupidity.
What world do you live in?
At least have the balls to recognize the GOP for what they are -- a party for the rich. They are not compassionate, they are not helping the poor, and they are most certainly not honest."The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. No one has said the GOP is perfect. We are simply making the case that the policies promoted by the GOP are in fact more compassionate and better for the poor than the Democrat's. I think the case is very clear. Jaguar's examples are not exceptions, they are the norm. Democratic machines at every level of government participate in this crony capitalism that exists solely to prevent people from finding gainful employment or destroying wealth in a hamfisted attempt to redistribute it to favored members of the electorate.Originally posted by Asher View PostHonestly, are you two even aware how absurd you are?

The one where economics is reality, and the Democrats refuse to accept that reality. What world do you live in?
They are not a party for the rich. If they were, they would never win elections. How can they get rid of the taxi medallions without screwing anyone? Announce that they will end the system, but will buy up the medallions for a million dollars a piece? That could cost the city government a fortune. I can see how there might be political barriers to ending this.Originally posted by Jaguar View PostLet's try another one: Taxi Medallions, a system that deprives poor immigrants of jobs (and deprives everyday citizens of transportation) by artificially restricting the supply of taxis. These systems are commonplace in cities, which largely have Democratic councils. Only a few brave Republican-leaning cities like Indianapolis have saved people from this regressive, anti-immigrant persecution.
In New York City, a taxi medallion costs $1.0 million, because the city government has restricted the supply of them to about thirteen thousand. Let me repeat that. You have to pay $1 million for the right to drive people around in a car.
I get that a Democratic city council is never going to completely deregulate a market, and even in the best case, they will demand a few hundred dollars for "registration fees." But this is something quite different. $1 million? Why not $11 million? Why not $74 million, or any other number completely divorced from reality? Net of wages, maintenance, and other expenses, a New York City cab makes about $50,000 a year - they're extremely profitable - but virtually all of that money has to go towards interest payments on the ridiculously-priced medallions.
This is one of the easiest immigrant jobs, because many know how to drive from their home countries - but thanks to your typical Democratic city council, the number of cabs in New York City is woefully short of where it would be in a free society. A licensed yellow taxi cab in New York is more expensive than a Rolls Royce. Silly immigrants, you thought you were going to come to "America" and have economic "opportunity?" No, that's ridiculous. Regulation is much too important.
Again, these are the human costs of the Democratic party.

That's an easy one. Release a thousand more medallions a year for twenty years or so, until the value of medallions drops to nearly nothing, then do away with them. That will give people twenty years to get out at a reduced loss.Originally posted by gribbler View PostHow can they get rid of the taxi medallions without screwing anyone? So now currently existing taxi businesses can't pay the interest on the loans they took out to buy the medallions because new competitors have driven down revenue?Originally posted by snoopy369 View PostThat's an easy one. Conservatism exists for the purpose of making poor idiots vote to help the rich.
