    Sorry, I misspoke.

    Virginia. Fairfax County.

      Does it involve trickle-down economics?

Why does your economic philosophy need the "conservative" label so badly? It makes more sense to describe nutjobs like Ben Kenobi as "conservative".

He's being his usual disingenuous holier-than-thou self by using absurd estimates by activist groups with very loose definitions of homelessness and contrasting it with an absurdly conservative definition of homelessness for Americans.

Jaguar et al constantly do this - they've no concept of the real world. He just seriously claimed 1% of Canadians are homeless in a post. Has he ever been to Canada?

He is demonstrating another GOP trait -- fearmongering by making **** up about Canada.

            • The Canadian federal government believes the number is 150,000, which is probably the right number to compare to the 600,000 of the US. Still a pretty large number comparatively.

                Thanks

Unfortunately a significant portion of the "Tea party" are and are replacing reasonable Republicans with nutjobs.
How bad are they, really? They observably support providing health care for seniors through a simple, straightforward government program (either Medicare or the Ryan Plan.) They just didn't support Obama's health care bill because they deemed it intrusive and complex and likely laden with giveaways and unintended consequences.

You need to understand a difference in standards. The Canadian government has a far lower bar for what constitutes poverty and homelessness. It's an artifact of a more compassionate society.

200 to 300 thousand is the conservative figure. Never have I seen the number estimated below 150,000, anywhere.

                        • Have you seriously ever been to Canada?

I don't even know what to say to someone who thinks 1% of the population being homeless in Canada is a conservative estimate.

Shouldn't it be easy for you to show how wrong I am? With the GOP crushing the poor with its uniquely-right-wing economics, shouldn't Canada be leaps and bounds ahead of us? Shouldn't this be a slam dunk for your side of the argument?

You're so much like Ben, it's not even funny.

Step 1: Make absurd, asinine comments not supported by reality
Step 2: Defend them in the face of opposition without citation
Step 3: Blame Obama (he's the President!)
Step 4: Make contradictory argument and hope no one will notice (Obama is making so many homeless people, but the GOP's policies are making homelessness better in the US than Canada!)
Step 5: Put the onus on others to prove or disprove your asinine comments

Once there is an international standard for what constitutes poverty and homelessness, then a comparison becomes useful. Until then, only complete tools will make the comparison -- using estimates which fit the narrative of their argument, and not reality.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the GOP.
