I didn't say never. Never is a very long time. 'Have never,' however, is a finite thing and the event not having taken place is very well known.

As Tel Aviv is being threatened, look for British, American, and Canadian (along with others) boots on the ground.

I think US subsidies are likely preferable to direct intervention.

Which nations boots were on the ground in '48?

Isn't the bigger news coming out of Chicago the fact that one of the highest paid and underperforming teacher's unions in the country just went on strike in part because they are afraid of teacher evaluations?

As Farrakhan is one of my Dead Pool picks I found the title of this thread to be very misleading.

I entered the thread to see what was wrong with him (aside from the obvious of course).

Was Czechoslovakia not democratic in 1938? I don't recall.

Israel is barely bigger than Delaware. By the time we could deploy anything the IDF would have already lost and Tel Aviv and Jerusalem would be a bunch of burnt craters.

To what exactly? The Israelis have successfully defended their country on many occasions, and are also a nuclear power. I'm actually all for us helping defend Israel if it ever came to it, but what is this threat they supposedly can't defend themselves from?

I was refuting the idea that there would ever be any scenario where we would be able to assist Israel with actual troops as opposed to resources.

The only threat I see Israel as unable to defend themselves from is nuclear weapons. I fear that many arab/muslim nations (such as Iran) would not be dissuaded by the thought of MAD, or might be willing to take the risk that they could give their nukes to a terrorist group and would have enough plausible deniability to get away with it. (I doubt that they actually would but all it would take is for them to believe otherwise and you can kiss Israel goodbye.)

I find that pretty confusing, why would the US find it hard to fly in troops from Germany or even the US within a week or two?

You can't just fly troops in (except paratroopers and other airborne units). The equipment such as tanks and artillery needs to already be in place. That's why we had the ability to airlift troops in in the event of a land war against the Soviets in Europe--we kept a lot of materiel in theater, ready to be used the moment we flew the reservists in. We don't have any such setup in Israel and the best we could do on a moment's notice is provide air support and airborne light infantry. My understanding is that Israel already has quite a bit of both, partly because we give them some money for it. But I think it's probably much safer to buff up Israel's military to keep anyone from thinking they might be able to win, thus avoiding war entirely, than promise to be able to dump troops and equipment and hope that no one tries to challenge our resolve.
