Open-carrying at Tea Party rallies is probaly a big reason why the police haven't cracked down on them the same way they have at OWS rallies(which are almost uniformly in states or cities with strct gun control).

Also the fact that the tea party folks usually followed every law and regulation to the letter, got all their permits, etc.

Open carrying near elected officials can easily be construed as brandishing, which is a felony in VA. I repeat, they weren't molested because the cops didn't want to die on that battlefield.
